Highs and lows

Oops, somebody has been quite lazy updating this blog...Summer went by pretty fast, it was fun to travel around and see different meets and Championships, but at the same time I had the feeling something was missing..wonder why ;) Watching European Champs, Finnish Champs or Zurich Weltklasse was great, but I'd lie if I said it was nice to be sitting in the stands in stead of being on the field. Anyway, at the end of August I moved to Helsinki and in September I started working in the Organizing Committee for European Championships in Helsinki 2012. Getting up and going to work mon-fri is quite a different life from what I'm used to, but also interesting. Right now it's all about planning the needs and basics for the Championships as well as doing a lot of benchmarking from previous Championships. I'm happy I get to work with Sports, so I can use the experience I've gained over the 15 years I was a "pro javelin thrower".

My shoulder progress has unfortunately been slow lately. 5 months post op I still can't lift the arm straight forward and up more than maybe 135deg, but I'm still working on it. It can get really frustrating, since not that much has happened in the last weeks. If I wouldn't have good physios helping me out I bet it would be worse. The good thing is that it's not sore or aching, it's just still REALLY stiff. It's quite scary how you can go from being in the top shape of your life to loosing 10kg of muscle and physically bad shape in 4months. First you work your butt off for 15years and then it's all gone in 4 months. I'm really hoping my arm will get back it's "normal" range of motion soon so I can start doing some training. Not javelin obviously, but getting back to some sort of physical shape. One thing I really miss is the feeling of a good work out and the day after when all your muscles are sore :) I'm heading off to the gym later on today to do some cardio and shoulder rehab, but working up a sweat 2 or 3 times a weeks feels pretty lame :) So all you guys who can still work your butt off, enjoy it :)
